The Examination Day Unpacked: A Minute-by-Minute Breakdown

The NCEE is designed to be comprehensive, assessing a wide range of academic and aptitude skills. The day is carefully segmented to manage the flow of candidates and the various examination papers.

=> 7:30am – 9:30am: Validation, Attendance, and Sanitization. This initial two-hour window is dedicated to administrative necessities. Candidates must arrive promptly to undergo validation, which confirms their identity and registration details. Marking attendance is a non-negotiable step, and sanitization protocols will be in place to ensure a safe environment for all. Early arrival is highly recommended to avoid any last-minute rush or complications.

=> 9:30am – 9:40am: Issuance of Customized OMR Answer Sheets for Paper I. Precision is key here. Candidates will be issued their Optical Mark Recognition (OMR) answer sheets specifically designed for Paper I. It’s imperative to double-check that you have received your correct sheet and that it is free from any defects before the next step.

=> 9:40am – 9:50am: Issuance of Paper I Question Papers. With OMR sheets in hand, the question papers for Paper I will be distributed. Remember, silence is golden during this period. Do not open the question paper until instructed by the invigilator.

=> 9:50am – 12:00noon: Paper I – The Core Subjects. This is the first major examination session, lasting approximately two hours and ten minutes. Paper I is divided into two parts:

  • Part A: Mathematics and Basic Science & Technology. This section will test your numerical reasoning, problem-solving abilities, and understanding of fundamental scientific concepts.
  • Part B: English Studies and National Values Education. Here, your English language proficiency, comprehension, and knowledge of civic education and national values will be assessed. Effective time management across these sub-sections is vital to ensure you attempt all questions.

=> 12:00noon – 12:55pm: Break and Sanitization.
A much-needed break! This 55-minute interval provides an opportunity for candidates to relax, use the restroom, and have a quick refreshment. Sanitization procedures will also be carried out during this time. Use this break wisely to clear your head and prepare for the next paper.

=> 12:55pm – 1:05pm: Issuance of Customized OMR Answer Sheets for Paper II. As with Paper I, OMR sheets for Paper II will be distributed. Once again, verify you have the correct sheet.

=> 1:05pm – 1:15pm: Issuance of Paper II Question Papers. The question papers for Paper II will follow. Maintain decorum and patience while awaiting instructions.

=> 1:15pm – 2:35pm: Paper II – Aptitude and Reasoning. This final examination session, lasting one hour and twenty minutes, delves into aptitude:

  • Part A: Quantitative and Vocational Aptitude. This section evaluates your ability to reason with numbers, patterns, and practical skills.
  • Part B: Verbal Aptitude. This part assesses your understanding of language, analogies, and verbal reasoning. Focus and concentration will be crucial in this final push.

Key Regulations and Important Reminders:

NECO has outlined several critical instructions that all candidates, parents, and examination officials must strictly follow:

  • Timetable Takes Precedence: “Where the time on the question paper differs from the time on this timetable, the time on the question paper should be strictly adhered to.”
  • Special Accommodations for Albino and Blind Candidates: “Albino and Blind candidates are to be allowed 30 extra minutes at the end of each paper.” NECO ensures inclusivity by providing additional time for candidates with visual impairments, allowing them a fair chance to complete their examinations.
  • Mandatory Braille Sheet for Blind Candidates: “Blind candidates must make use of NECO supplied OBR Customized braille sheet for the examination.” This specifies the approved material for blind candidates, ensuring uniformity and accuracy in their responses.
  • Strict Prohibition of Electronic Gadgets: “Bringing into the examination hall electronic communication gadgets (scientific and programmable calculators, mobile phones, iPads, tablets, smart wrist watches/glasses/pens etc.) are strictly prohibited.” This is a zero-tolerance policy. Any candidate found with such devices will face severe penalties, including disqualification. It is best to leave all electronic devices at home.
  • Simple Calculators ARE Allowed: “Use of simple calculator is allowed.” This is a significant piece of information. Candidates can bring and use a basic, non-programmable calculator. Familiarity with its use for calculations will be beneficial, especially for the Mathematics and Quantitative Aptitude sections.

This comprehensive overview should equip candidates and their families with the necessary information to approach the 2025 NCEE with confidence and preparedness. Remember, thorough preparation, adherence to the rules, and a calm demeanor on examination day are key to success. Best of luck to all aspiring students!
